Students: see a doctor for free
Did you know that you can receive medical care on campus? Visit the Health and Wellness Center for basic medical needs, fill prescriptions, and get medical tests. Remember to bring your insurance card and ID. Contact the office at 417-836-4000. Here is a map. Note that beginning in fall 2016 the clinic will be housed at Monroe Apartments – across the street from the current building – while a new health center is built.
Need someone to listen?
Starting school or work in a brand-new environment is exciting, but with any change comes stress. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, and talking to a trained counselor can help you adjust. Change can also cause or worsen anxiety and depression, so if you need support, stop by the Counseling Office in Carrington 311. Services are free and confidential.
Stay in shape
The Rec Center is here to help you stay healthy. Want to work out with others? Join a group class like yoga, Pilates, or Zumba. Want to do your own thing? Hit the weights and spin away to your heart’s content – literally. Use the pool and sign up for intramurals, too.
Meet cool people
Did you know that Missouri State has 390 different student organizations? Joining one is a terrific way to meet friends and develop interests ranging from honor societies to water ski club. Beekeeping Club, Volunteer Programs, Beartones, and Tennis Club are just a few of your options. Now is the time!
Know the news on campus
Stay up to date by reading the student newspaper. Follow your Bears, read up on events, and check out opinion pieces. Look for the special Back to School issue for tips on study skills and fun stuff to do on campus and in Springfield. The Standard is published on Tuesdays during the academic year and is available at newstands all over campus.
Hear live music
The Springfield Symphony Orchestra plays monthly concerts at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. They are calling this season “Extreme,” and concert themes include Extreme Galactic Adventure and Extreme Silly. Students can purchase tickets for $10 with a valid college ID. Children age 4-17 also receive discounted seats.
Buy tickets for shows in Springfield
Did you know that KISS just performed at JQH Arena? Get tickets for concerts, theater, and athletic events at one of four Missouri State TIX box offices. Find one in Plaster Student Union on the second floor. It is between Commerce Bank and Chick-Fil-A. Other box offices are at JQH Arena, Juanita K. Hammons Hall, and Craig Hall. You can also buy tickets online.
Pay your bills
Need to pay a bill or check on a scholarship? Make sure your finances are in order at the financial aid office, located in Carrington Hall 101. You can also visit the website to find answers to FAQs, apply for grants and loans, and check account balances.
Grab lunch in the middle of campus
The PSU is a great place to meet up with classmates and friends. You can also find a UPS, post office, and a branch of Commerce Bank. Food vendors include Papa Johns, Panda Express, and Subway. If you lose your BearPass, get a new one on the ground floor – right next to the bowling alley.
Make the school better
If you want to involved in the political process on your campus, join SGA! You can represent your favorite organization or be a senator at-large. Senators work together to support student proposals, allocate fees, and improve campus relations. Meetings take place every Tuesday night in the PSU.
