Covid-19 Support at Magers Family Health and Wellness Center

April 20, 2021 by Priscilla Childress

When you think of the heroes that have stepped up during the Covid-19 pandemic,  you must think of the doctors, nurses and staff members of Magers Health and Wellness Center. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Magers Health and Wellness stayed open to assist students, employees, and the University with COVID care and management.  Magers Health and Wellness Center

Magers evaluates patients who may have Covid-19 symptoms in the first floor Immediate Care Clinic.  The staff has Personal Protective Equipment, the patients wear protective masks, and the exams take place in negative airflow rooms which exchange the exam room air volume 12 times per hour.

These exams help our students determine if their illness is Covid-19 related or perhaps another etiology such as influenza, pneumonia, Strep, infectious mononucleosis, or other causes. This gives added safety and peace of mind for the student, while avoiding long waits in an emergency room or urgent care.

Magers led the way in introducing Covid-19 testing, and to date has performed more than 5,400 Covid-19 tests.  The tests include state-of-the-art PCR/NAA testing for evidence of current viral infection.  Magers can also test for Covid-19 antibodies when medically indicated.

Magers has been blessed to receive the COVID vaccine which has allowed them to follow public health vaccination guidelines for our campus community.  To date, Magers has administered more than 8,600 vaccinations.

Magers continues to vaccinate with the Pfizer vaccine, helping our students protect themselves against Covid-19 before they return home for the summer. The University has enabled Magers to provide free Covid-19 PCR/NAA testing and free Covid-19 vaccinations thus far, for our students.

The pandemic has been difficult, but our students have demonstrated considerable resilience to advance their education despite these challenges.  Dr. Dave Muegge, director, Magers Health and Wellness Center says “It is our honor to help our students manage these Covid-19 obstacles.”

Thank you to everyone at Magers that has worked so hard to keep our campus safe and healthy! Your work is greatly appreciated!
