Five Things – This Week in Student Affairs – September 20th

September 20, 2021 by Priscilla Childress

Take a minute to see what’s going on this week in the Division of Student Affairs.

1. Flu Shots – Flu shots are available starting today, September 20th. Visit your MyHealthPortal to schedule your appointment. Find out more here: https://health.missouristate.edu/flu-information.htm

2. Latinx Heritage Month – Immerse yourself in Latinx culture throughout September by attending events hosted by Multicultural Programs. The events will take place through September 28th, both in person and virtually. Visit https://news.missouristate.edu/2021/09/01/latinx-heritage-month-2021/ to see a listing of events.

3. The 2022 SOAR Application has Opened – Recruitment for our summer 2022 SOAR leaders has opened. Please share this information with the students you work with. SOAR leaders lead groups of new first-year students and their family members and educate them about campus resources and student life issues to help them succeed at Missouri State University. SOAR leaders’ work is essential to the Missouri State community. They help students feel more comfortable on campus, more confident about their ability to succeed, more connected to others, and more curious about possible opportunities. 4. Public Affairs Conference – The Public Affairs Conference is Sept. 27-30, 2021. This year’s conference will be a mixture of in-person events and live virtual programming as we explore the various facets of Bridging the Divide.  See the schedule of events here: https://publicaffairs.missouristate.edu/conference/schedule

5. Family Weekend 2021 – Family Weekend, September 24-26th, is back and our families are very excited about heading back to campus, spending time with their student and seeing all the university and Springfield has to offer. We do have a few spots open for volunteers to help with check-in, the Welcome Brunch and the Tailgate. If you are interested in volunteering, email pchildress@missouristate.edu To see the schedule of events, visit: https://www.missouristate.edu/bearsfamilies/familyweekend.htm

Bonus: Multicultural Resource Center Grand Opening – Mark your calendars for the grand opening of the Multicultural Resource Center on October 16th, 12 noon, 1st floor of the Plaster Student Union. Come enjoy refreshments, music and giveaways. https://bit.ly/3lFu7N2
