Five Things – This Week in Student Affairs – October 10th

October 10, 2022 by Priscilla Childress

Take a moment to see what’s going on this week in the Division of Student Affairs.

1. President’s Diversity Council Meeting – Join President Smart and Multicultural Services for the Fall 2022 President’s Diversity Council Meeting, Tuesday, October 11th, 3:30pm-5pm, The Union Club, PSU 400.

2. University Ambassadors Recruitment – The Missouri State University Ambassadors organization is looking for amazing students to join the team! The recruitment season is underway and the membership application is available now. University Ambassadors lead campus tours for prospective students and participate in other new student recruitment events, all while getting paid for their efforts. Membership also provides leadership and employment opportunities, as well as social activities and great friendships! Please help spread the word and encourage students to apply by visiting www.MissouriState.edu/JoinUA. The application deadline is Oct. 21, 2022!

3. Chartwells and Staff Senates Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon – Chartwells and Staff Senates Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon will be October 20th, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom.  The price for this all you can eat buffet is $12.00 per person, with half of the $12.00 being donated to Cancer Research of the Ozarks.  If you would like to make a reservation for 8 people or more, please contact Teri Trickey by email at teritrickey@missouristate.edu.  Be sure to mark this on your calendars.

4. Encourage Students You Work with to Apply to be a SOAR Leader – SOAR leaders lead groups of new first-year students and their family members and educate them about campus resources and student life issues to help them succeed at Missouri State University. SOAR leaders’ work is essential to the Missouri State community. They help students feel more comfortable on campus, more confident about their ability to succeed, more connected to others, and more curious about possible opportunities. Share this link with them: https://www.missouristate.edu/NewBears/becomeaSOARleader.htm

You can also nominate a student to be a SOAR Leader, and the Orientation and Transitions Office will reach out to them and encourage them to apply. Nominate the student here: https://dosaforms.missouristate.edu/view.php?id=204686

5. Join the Celebration for Onward Upward – You helped Missouri State Move Onward and Upward. Now it’s time to celebrate! Join the celebration on Saturday, October 29th, Great Southern Bank Arena, 7pm. The celebration will be hosted by John Goodman.
