Five Things – This Week in Student Affairs – March 25th

March 24, 2024 by Priscilla Childress

Take a moment to see what’s going on this week in the Division of Student Affairs.

Friday is Spring Holiday! Thanks to Missouri State for the extra given day to relax and refresh! Wishing you a lovely long weekend!

1. EAB Voice Sessions: Thank you to those individuals who were able to participate and provide feedback during the EAB Voice Sessions. As we have now concluded all of the sessions, EAB will be taking the information gathered and reviewing over the next 6 weeks. At the conclusion of the 6 weeks, EAB will present the core work group (Dr. Siscoe, Dr. Weber, Scot Scobee, and Paula Wilhelm) with a thematic report which includes recommendations. From there, the core work group will work with Student Affairs Leadership Council to determine next steps. If you have any additional questions or would like to provide any feedback, please contact Dr. Andrea Weber (andreaweber@missouristate.edu).

2. Department Spotlight – Foster Recreation Center – The Campus Rec Center is a hub on the campus for students to meet, exercise and learn ways to de-stress in the midst of a busy semester. Take a moment to learn about the many programs they offer and how they function within the Division of Student Affairs.  Learn more!

3. Local Election Candidate Forum – Paws to the Polls voter education initiative brings you their second annual Local Election Candidate Forum on March 27th, 3:30-5pm, Plaster Student Union 313. This event helps to inform voters about the issues dealt with by the Springfield Public Schools School Board and allows them to get to know the candidates.  Seven candidates are on the ballot and voters will choose three of them to serve on the school board.

4. Upcoming Public Affairs Events – There are several Public Affairs events coming up in the next few weeks. Add these to your calendar and try to attend, if possible.

  1. The Holocaust in the Heartland: Building the Holocaust Museum in the Midwest (awareness, empathy, remembrance)
    Tues, March 26, 4:00-5:00pm, Meyer Library 101
  1. Illicit Fentanyl:  Shattering Dreams

Thurs, April 4, 4:00-5:00pm, PSU Theater

5. Spring Family Day at Hammons Field – Spring Family Day is April 13th. The baseball game starts at 11am. March 29th is the last day to order tickets that come with a t-shirt. Visit https://www.missouristate.edu/BearsFamilies/spring-family-day.htm to find out how to order tickets.
