1. 2024 Public Affairs Conference – The 21st Public Affairs Conference starts Tuesday, Sept. 24 and runs Thursday, 26, 2024. Free and open to the public, this year’s conference offers a mix of in-person speakers and live virtual panels. The theme, Between the One and the Many: Considering Community and Individualism, explores the ways that Americans engage the one and the many, as we consider the role of community and individualism in American life. 2. Student Affairs Back to School Luncheon – The Student Affairs annual Back to School Luncheon will be held on Friday, September 27th, 11:30am-1pm in PSU Ballroom East. The cost is $5 (cash please) with the coupon that was emailed to you on Friday, September 20th. View the flyer for more details. Print the coupon.
3. Lunch and Learn: Expressive Activity – Come join Dr. Siscoe for a Lunch and Learn on Expressive Activity from 12:00-1:00 in PSU 317- Guest speakers are Todd Revell and Gabrielle Catlin. Seating is limited lease contact Peggyjones@missouristate.edu to reserve a seat. Bring your lunch, drinks and desert will be provided.
4. US Naturalization Ceremony: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Witness as those applicants in the United States Courts for the Western District of Missouri take their Oath of Allegiance and thereby complete the process of becoming a United States citizen. There will be a variety of speakers along with performances by Missouri State University’s vocal talent. This event is free and open to the public.
5. Submissions are currently being accepted for the Dr. Michael N. Compton Public Affairs Essay Contest. Any full-time classified freshman through senior attending the Missouri State University Springfield campus are eligible for this contest. First place winner receives a check from Sigma Pi IDEAL for $1,500 plus and additional $500 to e donated in the winner’s name to the charity or non-profit of their choice. Awards also made for second and third place essays. Visit the website for details. Deadline for submission is midnight, October 27, 2024.
6. Join us in celebrating Careers in Students Affairs Month 2024 this October! Every October, NASPA celebrates the profession of student affairs. Through this month-long celebration, the NASPA community comes together to share their knowledge, network, and uplift the student affairs profession. 7. Family Weekend 2024 – Family Weekend starts Friday, September 27 going through Sunday, September 29th. There will be many families on campus visiting their students and attending many of the events planned for the weekend! These events include the football game on Saturday, September 28th, BearWear Bingo-Family Edition, the Student Activities Council Comedy show, Mini DeStress Fest at Magers Health and Wellness, Zumba and Splash-n-S’mores at Campus Rec, the Bear Family Tailgate and lots more.
