The MSU Counseling Center is dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of all Missouri State University students. We’re here to make sure every student feels empowered and supported.
Who We Are
Our team includes a Director, Assistant Director, seven Mental Health Clinicians, a Case Manager, a full-time Administrative Assistant, four graduate assistants, and four student employees. We’re also fortunate to work alongside our Student Mental Health Ambassadors—volunteers who are undergraduate and graduate students passionate about mental wellness and peer support.
What We Do
Our mission at the MSU Counseling Center is to empower students by providing mental health services that support their overall wellness and academic success. We accomplish this by focusing on three core functions:
- Assessing Student Needs: We continually evaluate the mental health and wellness needs of MSU students to ensure our services remain relevant and effective.
- Outreach Programs: Through workshops, classes, and other outreach activities, we provide timely, engaging events to promote mental wellness across campus.
- Mental Health Interventions: We offer a variety of mental health services and interventions to meet the diverse needs of our student community.
The MSU Counseling Center is always open to suggestions from students, faculty, and staff to improve our services and make mental wellness a foundational part of campus life.
Our Mission
Our mission is to be a dynamic mental health resource for MSU students, advocating for a supportive, inclusive, and accessible environment. We believe that mental wellness should be a central part of campus life and aim to make resources available in a way that feels as natural as breathing. Through evidence-based practices, a stepped-care model, and a dedication to student success, we strive to help students thrive.
Collaboration Opportunities
Collaboration is essential to making mental wellness a prominent part of our campus community. By promoting our events, sharing information about our resources, or inviting us to join your group meetings, events, or classes, you can help support mental wellness on campus. We are always looking to connect with students, faculty, and staff in meaningful ways, and we welcome opportunities to partner with other groups across campus.
Champions for Student Success
At the MSU Counseling Center, we see ourselves as catalysts for student success. Our goal isn’t just to provide services but to foster a culture where mental health is a priority. We work closely with campus and off-campus partners to ensure students have access to a network of support resources, advocate for student needs, and continuously seek ways to improve. When students, faculty, and staff collaborate, we can create a community that champions mental health and student success together.
Recent Achievements
We’re proud of recent advancements we’ve made to enhance our services. With a new triage and case management system, we’ve been able to meet increased demand by streamlining access and freeing up senior staff to focus on crisis intervention, therapy, and outreach. This stepped-care model enables us to better address the diverse needs of MSU students, ensuring timely support and comprehensive care.
Our Goals for the Upcoming Year
This year, our priority is to expand our service offerings to include more therapy groups, psychoeducational classes, and engaging workshops. By providing students with a variety of evidence-based options, we aim to make mental wellness resources more accessible and tailored to meet individual needs.
