At Missouri State University, the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides students with opportunities to connect, grow, and thrive through impactful programming and partnerships. Our mission is to foster a thriving environment where students feel a sense of belonging and are supported in achieving their academic and personal goals.
Who We Are
The Office of Student Engagement team is made up of dedicated professionals passionate about enhancing the student experience:
Joan Barrett, Ed.D- Interim Director, Office of Student Engagement
Allison Cavato, Coordinator, Fraternity and Sorority Life
Briar Douglas, Coordinator, Co-Curricular Involvement
Carlye Genisio, Assistant Director, Student Engagement
Taylor Havens, Administrative Assistant, OSE
Ryan Santoni, Coordinator, Programming
What We Do
Our department focuses on three key functions:
The top three functions of the OSE are Programming, MO State Lead, and Fraternity & Sorority Life. The Programming function covers many of the events and activities related to Homecoming, Student Activities Council (SAC), and MSU’s Traditions Council (TC). MO State Lead is proud to lead outstanding students in MSU’s Emerging Leaders program and the Centennial Leaders Scholarship Program. Finally, OSE is pleased to support Fraternity and Sorority Life at MSU by fostering multiple opportunities for inclusivity, connection, and personal growth through the opportunities of brotherhood and sisterhood. In each of these “lanes” within the Office of Student Engagement, MSU students have opportunities to connect and grow in so many ways. Our goals are to create an inviting environment for applicants to MSU and ultimately a thriving environment in which students are retained and ultimately graduate.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create an inviting and thriving environment for students at Missouri State University, fostering personal and academic success through leadership, inclusivity, and engagement opportunities.
We Want You To Know
The one thing would include the passion these professionals hold for the student experience at MSU. A positive growth experience can be the make or break as it relates to finding your place at MSU.
Championing Student Success
The Office of Student Engagement champions student success by focusing on retention through meaningful engagement outside the classroom. This commitment drives our mission to create impactful student experiences at MSU.
Recent Achievements
The OSE has been in a staff deficit in recent months but that has not slowed us down! We are each still reveling in the accomplishments of MSU Welcome Week and how our students connected with us and each other during that critical time.

Get Involved
There are so many opportunities for students to get involved. The best part is that students may choose how involved they’d like to be. There are opportunities to lead and there are opportunities to pitch in on an event. Either are fantastic ways to impact campus life, make friends, and grow and develop.
Stay Connected
One of the best ways to know what’s happening on campus is to connect with the MSU Bear Link app. Attend campus events and ask any of the student leaders how you might get more involved if interested. Another way to see what’s up on campus is through social media. The MSU Instagram addresses include: SAC @mostatesac, Traditions Council @missouristatetc, Fraternity & Sorority Life @mostatefsl, Office of Student Engagement @mostateose, and CCI @mostateinvolvement. And don’t forget TikTok, we’re everywhere!
