Our mission is to provide quality service to all military-affiliated students by helping empower them to successfully transition to college and equip them to be productive in the civilian workforce.
Who We Are
The Oldham Family Veteran Student Center is led by Director of Veteran Student Center, Raeleen Ziegler, Assistant Director of Veteran Student Center, Nicole Webster, with support from one Graduate Assistant and 10 Student Liaisons. The center focuses on helping military-affiliated students transition smoothly into university life while offering support for their educational and career goals.
What We Do
The Oldham Family Veteran Student Center plays a critical role in the success of military-affiliated students through its key services:
- Veteran Benefits and Educational Resources – Assists with the application, certification, and management of VA education benefits; and assists with applying for tuition assistance through the respective military branch portal and other financial aid opportunities.
- Student Support and Transition Assistance – Provides guidance on navigating the university system, including admissions, enrollment, and academic support.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy – Promotes a welcoming environment through programs, events, and networking opportunities.
Our Mission
One key thing we want the campus community to know about the Veteran Student Center is that we are more than just a resource for benefits—we are a community dedicated to supporting student veterans in their academic, professional, and personal success. Many people assume that our primary role is processing TA/VA benefits, but we also provide mentorship, career development, and a supportive space where student veterans can connect with peers who understand their experiences. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, we help ensure that student veterans transition smoothly into university life and thrive during their academic journey.
Collaboration Opportunities
The Oldham Family Veteran Student Center actively seeks collaborations with various university departments to enhance support for military-affiliated students. A notable example includes partnering with the Career Center to provide workshops on résumé writing, job application processes, interview preparation, and job search strategies. Departments interested in collaborating can contact the center at 417-836-6199 or visit Meyer Library, Room 108.
