Finals and Winter Break 2021

December 9, 2021 by Chase Stockton

Now that we have come back from Thanksgiving break and December has begun, it can only mean one thing: the end of the semester is quickly approaching! At the end of the semester, two big events come for students: Finals and Moving out.

Finals

The week of finals will take place from Saturday, December 11 through Thursday, December 16. It is important to note your final exam period could be at a different time than your regular class period. Be sure you are reviewing your syllabus, asking your professor, or reviewing the final exam schedule for this information. Finals are often a large cause of stress for many students. Remember, self-care is still extremely important during this time. Burnout can come from spending hours cramming and studying with no break time. This burnout can lead to fatigue and less successful academic performance. Pulling an “all-nighter” to study or finish up a project can have negative effects on your health. Lack of sleep can be a contributing factor to getting sick. Plan ahead to avoid burnout.  Start studying and working on final projects and papers now. Don’t know where to start? Missouri State University offers a variety of resources that can be helpful during this time, including the Bear CLAW, Student Success, and the Counseling Center.

Moving Out for Break

You’ve completed your finals – now what?  If you are heading home for winter break, it’s time to check out of your building. Please note that most residence halls will close for winter break (Blair-Shannon, Freddy, Wells, and Woods). Your residence assistant and hall staff will be providing information in the next couple of weeks regarding check-out procedures. Keep a close eye on your Missouri State email, floor group me, or announcement space for information! It is important to follow these procedures to prevent fines from accruing and ensure your space is safe for winter break. Some things to consider when leaving for winter break are:

  • Ensure you have any clothes and hygiene items you need over break
  • Take all valuables with you or secure them in your room
  • Unplug any lamp, power strips, electronics, or appliances (except for fridges or aquariums)
  • Clean out perishable items from the fridge
  • Take out any trash in your room or suite area
  • Have your RA review the space and complete any check out paperwork
  • Lock your door before you leave

If you are staying on campus for winter break, check out the winter break housing and dining resources page! If you have questions about moving out or winter break housing, be sure to contact your RA as soon as possible.

The Office of Student Conduct hopes each of you has a successful end to the semester and a wonderful winter break! To our fall BearGrads, congratulations on your accomplishment!
