Being right and responsible

Closing out the Fall 2022 Semester

December 12, 2022 by Madison K. Stone

Congratulations on finishing out this semester with an extra congratulations to those of you graduating this fall! If you are leaving campus for Winter Break, you first need to check in with your RA to ensure that you and your room are good to go. Most residence halls will be closed for Winter Break (Sunvilla, Monroe, Hammons, Heitz, Hutchens, and Scholars will remain open). Keep a close eye on your Missouri State email, your floor’s Group Me, and other announcement spaces for information from your resident assistant or other hall staff regarding check-out procedures! It is important to follow these procedures to prevent fines from accruing and to ensure your space is safe over Winter Break. Historically, there is an increase in theft during the holiday season and we want to do our best to keep you and your items safe. Some things to consider when leaving for break are:

  • Ensure you have any items you need or want to take with you
  • Do not leave any valuables behind
  • Unplug lamps, power strips, electronics, appliances, etc. (except for refrigerators and aquariums)
  • Clean out all perishable items from the refrigerator
  • Take out all trash items
  • Lock your door before you leave
  • Make sure to keep your keys and Bear pass with you in a secure location over break

If you would like to stay on campus over Winter Break, be sure to apply and check out the Winter Break Housing and Dining Resources page. If you have any questions about moving out or housing options, please contact your RA as soon as possible. Other important information to know for Winter Break includes:

  • Final grades from the fall semester will be available on your MSU account on December 20th, 2022
  • University Offices will be closed from December 22nd, 2022, through January 4th, 2023
  • Intersession courses begin on January 9th, 2023
  • There will be no classes and University Offices will be closed on January 16th, 2023, for Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
  • The full Spring 2023 semester begins on January 23rd, 2023

The Office of Student Conduct hopes everyone within our campus community has a wonderful Winter Break! We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus in January, but until then, Happy Holiday Season, Bears!
