Day 10:
Another early morning was the start to our second day in Bagan, Myanmar. All of us jumped in a bus and started the long drive to Mount Popa. The roads were terrifying, there’s no other way to put it. They winded around a mountain and the driver, although skilled, drove fast. All the cars drive fast here. To make the long drive seem not as bad we stopped at a shop along the “highway” that made palm sugar. We tried different kinds: coconut, plum, pure, juice. The sugar was warm and soft and I ended up buying two bags; hopefully it won’t all be gone by the time I get home.
At the base of Mount Popa and simultaneously most of the way up, were monkeys-lots and lots of monkeys. They climbed on us and begged for food. Luckily there were locals to help free us.
Mount Popa was an intense climb. 777 steps later we reached the top and oh goodness was it gratifying. The view was spectacular mesmerizing (that one is for you mom) and ours eyes felt like they could see forever.
Later in the day when our legs still felt like jello, Alex would coin the phrase “we got Popa’d.”
The rest of the day/night was left to relax.
