5/23 temples + markets + sunsets = happy Buddha
Today, we traveled through the mountains and hills before reaching a beautiful market, selling fruits and veggies and nuts. I bought some coconut spoons and some nuts to snack throughout the day. From there, we experienced a true Balinese buffet. I had black rice with coconut for dessert. It was quite divine. Next, we visited a temple on a lake. The tour guide was saying how everywhere the Hindus come across a place of water– a lake, or a natural spring, the ocean– they have to create a temple of worship for the gods. This temple by the lake was called Beratan Lake Temple. I really enjoyed this temple because it was quite serene. If none of the tourists would have been there, I can imagine myself worshiping the gods. From the Beratan Temple, the group traveled to another market/temple, by the sea to watch the sunset. Because we are so close to the equator, the sun sets very early in my standards. It sets around 6 pm every day. This temple by the sea was called Tanah Lot. For dinner, we ate at an outdoor restaurant near the rice paddies. It was very buggy, but the employees provided deet so we wouldn’t get bitten. I had my first taste of crispy duck and barbecue chicken. It was delicious. I really am enjoying the food so far.
At the market, I bought a Wooden happy Buddha, hence the title of this blog. I am starting to make quite the collection.
