The first thing we did was visit a Betik production facility and shop. Betik is a style of weaving done in Bali. We got to see some people working on pieces and then explore the shop full of items for sale. Betik is quite intricate and results in some gorgeous, albeit expensive, pieces.
After that, we went to see the rice terraces in Ubad. They were absolutely gorgeous, but quite steep. I can’t say I trusted my clumsy self on some of those paths that twisted down through the terraces of rice.
After visiting the rice terraces, we went to have lunch overlooking one of Bali’s volcanos. It was an incredible view, and you could see evidence of lava flow that destroyed vegetation on the side and bottom of the volcano. It would have been nice to do a hike on it, but it was still awesome to see just take in the view.
One of the more unique things we did was go to a coffee farm that has Luwak coffee which is supposedly the most expensive coffee in the world. We saw a bit of the process and then tasted several types of coffee and tea. Then, we were given the option of having a cup of the Luwak coffee. Luwak coffee is coffee beans that are eaten by a Luwak which is a small cat. After trying Weasel coffee at a coffee farm in Vietnam, I couldn’t pass up trying this stuff. I thought it was really good, but I actually preferred the weasel coffee from Vietnam.
The last thing we went to see was a woodcarving shop. While I wouldn’t say it was spectacular, it was still interesting to see some of the pieces.
