We went to the beer factory tour today. It was a tour that was allowed because of the connection with RHDHV in Vietnam. Ms. Bach, who helped organize it, was there as well. It was interesting to see the process of making beer in each step. The tour wasn’t very detailed but we got to see the process from beginning to the end.
After the factory tour, we went to see a PVNF that they help support. It was an orphanage ran by nuns. I’ll have to admit, it was pretty emotional for me. The children there had been abandoned by their familes; they leave them in trash cans or public places hoping someone will pick them up. Those children are then taken to an orphange like the one we saw. Apparently that is very common around Vietnam. The children also had mental problems or something wrong with their development. What I was glad to see was how the nuns helped take care of each and everyone of them. There was even a volunteer who was from France helping take care of the children. A couple other people and I stayed at the orphanage a little longer while the others left to Cuchi tunnels and got to learn more about the facilities and the children they took care of. It was a very awe-inspiring experience and one I won’t forget for the rest of my life. After we got back to Saigon, we had a birthday dinner for four of us. It was my third birthday party in Vietnam. It’s always nice celebrating it with friends even though my family is back home.
