Exploring Sri Lanka

March 31, 2017 by Emily Cox

I have done a little (a lot) of research on Sri Lanka, I think it will be my favorite country that we visit. I looked over our itinerary, checking out our hotels and excursions. I absolutely love Kandy! I think the city will be amazing. According to our itinerary we travel from Sigiriya to Kandy which is about 2 hours away. I found this great blog, http://travelshus.com/category/sri-lanka/ this woman traveled to Sri Lanka and talks a lot about some of the places we will be going to. I’m not sure how Ms. Pham has set up our travel arrangements to each city, but I would love to take the train if we could. In the blog, Annie (the blogger) writes a post about the train system in Sri Lanka. Definitely read this post! The views of the countryside are beautiful and she mentions how cheap it is to ride the trains. Originally the train system was used to bring tea and coffee into the capital. It is now used as public transportation. She mentions the tea plantation around Kandy called The Geragama Tea Estate, which looks incredible from her pictures. Not sure if its the same tea plantation we will be going to but from my research it seems to be the closest one to Kandy without going up into the mountainside. Needless to say, I’m very excited to try Ceylon tea. Also from reading this blog I finally figured out the name of the most common transportation in Sri Lanka, tuk-tuk. It is basically a taxi, it has three wheels and is open air. According to this article on TripAdvisor, https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g293961-c220127/Sri-Lanka:Tuk.Tuk.Guide.html there are two types of tuk tuk, one which is metered and one that is not. We will want to ride in metered ones because we wont get ripped off on the price. If we can only ride in non metered tuk tuk then we will want to ask for the price up front and we can also bargain on the price.
