As I have been putting together appropriate outfits for Sri Lanka, I started to realize that I know nothing about the culture that I am supposed to be respecting on this trip. After doing a little research, I found a few interesting things!
The culture of Sri Lanka is a mixture of modern and traditional elements – also known for its regional diversity. It have been influenced by the heritage of Theravada Buddhism, which is particularly strong in the southern and central regions. South Indian cultural influences are visible in the northern part of the country.
The country has a rich artistic tradition, with creativity that comes in the form of music, dance, and visual arts. The Sri Lankan culture is internationally associated with cricket (a distinct cuisine), holistic medicine practices, religious iconography (the Buddhist flag), and exports (tea, cinnamon, and gemstones.
