Today we awoke to eat breakfast provided by the hotel. A buffet consisting of an array of items. It was very good. We then loaded the bus with our driver and tour guide. First, we visited Memorial Stupa. It is a worshipping place for Buddhism followers. The temple had at least four prayer layers, accessed by stairs. On the third floor, we could go outside. Below, people were worshipping and praying. We then loaded up to go to Dordenma Statue Stupa. It has a humongous statue of Buddha affixed to the top of the gold building. It was an incredible sight, atop the hills of the Himalayan Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. We were able to go inside, where people were worshipping and offering gifts. We then went to a local farmers market where they have two levels: one for all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and the other for only Bhutanese cuisine. It was a neat experience, and many locals were shopping for groceries. We then went to our dining place where we ate traditional Bhutanese cuisine: butter tea with dried rice; chilies with cheese sauce; spinach; green beans; red rice; dried pork; chicken; among other things. After, we toured the Textile Museum. In Bhutanese culture, traditional dress is very important, so it was interesting to see how things were made. We then shopped locally, and returned to the hotel. My roommate and I ventured to an Indian restaurant and returned to the hotel. We had dinner as a group about 7pm. Some highlights of the meal included pasta with feta cheese, chili chicken, and roasted vegetables. After, we relaxed until bedtime and went to sleep.
