Today I woke up early like always and tried to make the best out of breakfast. I ate four pieces of toast, two with butter and two with jelly. Kharma arrived soon after and we loaded all the luggage onto the bus and began three hour journey to Punaka. The views were quite spectacular as the road was small and it seemed we would fall off the cliff. About the halfway point we stopped at a lookout point for a short break. This area was about 3600 meters above sea level and had a temple and coffee shop as well. Along with the view there were a hundred and eight stupas representing the soldiers who died in a conflict with Indian refugees in the early 2000’s. The lookout featured a great view of the mountains and supposedly the 3rd tallest mountain in the world. Unfortunately it was cloudy and we were unable to see the mountain. Along the second half of the trip we caught a glimpse of the king and queen’s motorcade and a bad car accident. We arrived at our destination and ate lunch, which mainly consisted of rice, noodles, deep fried vegetables, and chicken. We then hiked through the rice fields to the temple of Fertility. We went back to the bus and drove to the hotel. The hotel was located perfectly and had many great views. Dinner wasn’t so great and sleep was interesting as there was no A/C unit. Tomorrow we drive to Paro.
