We started the journey to Punakha from Thimphu today. First, we stopped to see a Dzong in Thimphu, an old fortress. We didn’t unload the bus, but had a picture opportunity. Our second stop was at Dochula Pass, home to 108 memorial stupas known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens” have been built. The day was cloudy in the mountain tops, so we were not able to see the third largest mountain peak in the world. We had coffee in the cafe while overlooking the mountains and stupas. We then finished our drive to Punakha. After a nice buffet lunch, we trekked to the Temple of the Divine Madman, which is known for fertility blessings. Inside there was a shrine of Buddha, the Divine Madman, and his brother, all important elements to the culture and religion in Bhutan. After hiking, we went to the hotel to rest. A great dinner was served buffet style at 7pm. The group chatted for awhile before returning to our rooms.
