Yesterday, Wednesday 27, 2019 we had our second predeparture meeting where we discussed currency and some of the places we will be visiting. It was a relief to learn Vietnam is relatively inexpensive so I only need to budget for spending about $200-$300 in Vietnam and about $100-$200 in Laos. The local meals and shops in Vietnam are cheaper than in the United State. Hackling is also allowed at the small shops we will be visiting to try to get items at a lower rate. I learned that while hackling never pay more than half of what the seller is asking for because the seller will always raise the price above the value of the item. As a class, we decided that we will visit the Cu Chi Tunnels on the day we tour the Heineken Brewery. I have always enjoyed learning about U.S. history so I’m very excited to visit the Cu Chi tunnels that were dug during the Vietnam war. The Cu Chi tunnels were used by the United States Army and South Vietnam’s troops as shelter, means of communication and transportation, and for surprise attacks. I’m excited to get to explore the tunnels and take a picture sticking out the peak holes while holding the ground above my head.
