I previously posted facts everyone needs to know before visiting Australia but after reading the article posted on Blackboard I learned serval new facts that are helpful to know. First, know the language of Australia. Australians speak English but they have their own slang words that Americans aren’t familiar with. In Australia tomato sauce means ketchup, do you want to join us for tea means do you want to join us for dinner, and my favorite chuck a u-ey means turn around or make a U-turn. Second, prepare to go offline. I expected Australia to be much like the US and have free wifi at most shops, restaurants, and other major public places but this is false. Wifi in Australia is known to be slow and expensive. Third, Australian’s don’t use pennies so money is rounded to the nearest five-cent. The money is also colorful and plastic. Finally, dial 000 for an emergency. If you end up in an emergency situation dial triple zero to be connected to the police, fire, or ambulance depending on the emergency. The article “19 Things to Know Before Visiting Australia” has serval more helpful facts and is worth the read.
