Going new places means meeting new people and experiencing new things; one of these being religion. The main religion in Fiji is Christianity, however, the next equally as large religious group consists of individuals who practice Hinduism. In fact, one of the major tourist attractions in Fiji is the Sri Siva Subramaniya Hindu temple. What we will see when we visit is the new temple which was built with architectural emphasis to Vastu Vedic traditions and those of the ancient Dravidian Indian temple. I wanted to discuss this because if we do enter the temple it is important to respect the culture within the city as well as the temple specifically. We would need to ensure we dressed modestly, removed our shoes before entering, and only take pictures where appropriate – not inside the temple. This tends to be a common mistake tourists make which is why I thought opening the dialogue for this particular topic would suitable due to its relation to our trip!
