For my paper for this class my topic is over the cultural and workplace differences between the US and Australia. While we our similar in many ways, there are still a lot of differences. This last week I had to give a short presentation in a class that could be over whatever we wanted, even something from another class. I decided to present over what I’ve learned so far about the differences between the US and Australia culture, and people seemed pretty interested. I have enjoyed learning how things are in Australia. One thing I’ve found to be interesting is that Australian’s don’t put much emphasis on hierarchy in the workplace. In the US we are big on job titles and trying to get promoted, but over there it does not matter much. The management structure is pretty flat for a lot of Australian companies. The higher ups interact with lower levels employees and get their opinions on decisions a lot more than we would see in the US. I also appreciate that Australian’s get to the point quickly, they don’t beat around the bush as much as we do in the US when giving answers. These are just a few of the workplace differences I have found to be interesting.
