It is a common misconception that some majors cannot study away during the course of their program. These majors include those in the nursing/ biology programs, secondary education, and theater/dance. These programs do tend to have more strict guidelines as far as residency requirements and what classes you can and cannot take abroad, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go abroad. Let’s get down to it.
Short Term Faculty Directed Programs (STFD)
These programs range anywhere from one week to six weeks, and are lead by Missouri State faculty members. The programs are spread across fall, winter, spring, and summer break. This is done to allow those who can’t go abroad during the semester, the option to participate in a program. The cool thing though, is that these programs are usually more major specific since they are lead by faculty members from specific departments. The vast majority of students who do go abroad, choose this option due to the sheer availability of the options.
Affiliated Program Providers
This option is for students who want to go though one of our providers such as ISA, USAC, ISEP, or SOL Education Abroad. Students choose these programs typically for semester and academic year terms, but they also provide short term programs over the summer. The benefits over the STFD programs is that there are more countries available and the option to do an internship is also there. Between these and the STFD programs, most students are able to find a program that fits their needs and desires. If you have any additional questions.
