5. Ireland and Northern Ireland are two countries

Ireland or officially known as the Republic of Ireland is the largest part of the island. Northern Ireland is apart of the United Kingdom. I would recommend looking into the history of all this, it actually gets pretty interesting. Plus you’ll be one step ahead of your peers by the time you get there with some historical knowledge.

4. Traffic drives on the opposite side

Now when you get there, this is pretty cool. However, you’ll soon realize that you’ll have to relearn how to cross streets and drive (if your choose to do so). We’re used to traffic coming from the left before crossing a street, so you might only just look and see no cars coming and step out. But remember cars will be coming from the right. Instead of look left, right, then left again. It’s look right, left, then right again.

3. What’s the craic?

When you start making friends, you’ll hear a lot of, “What’s the craic?” This is basically the Ireland way of saying what’s up or how’s it going.

2. Do not use the peace sign

In many parts of Europe and including Ireland, the peace sign is very offensive if displayed improperly. If you’re going to display it, make sure that your palm is facing towards the person you’re giving the sign to. If your palm is facing towards yourself, then this will be deemed as an act of aggression.

It’s Ireland. Everyone is super friendly and will not hesitate to help you. Whether it’s trying to get to your first class or trying to find the right hairdresser. You’ll never want to leave once you get there.
