The Difference Between ISEP Exchange and ISEP Direct

March 29, 2019 by Desmond Warren

ISEP

ISEP Exchange

Going on an ISEP Exchange program is like borrowing your friend’s car abroad: whether it’s a Peugeot in France, a Volkswagen in Germany, or a Suzuki in Japan, their car is part of the place it was built, just as ISEP Exchange programs have long-standing roots in host communities around the world. With experienced on‑site coordinators to guide you as you adjust to life in your new home, the program offers a well‑loved, reliable “vehicle” for navigating both iconic destinations and hidden gems. Like a friend’s car that has accumulated miles but has been well cared for, an ISEP Exchange offers authentic, immersive experiences that help you integrate into the local culture while still giving you the flexibility to explore.

The payment model for an ISEP Exchange works a lot like borrowing your friend’s car abroad. Imagine a student comes to Missouri from abroad and uses your car while you use theirs in their home country—you both keep paying your own car payments, just in different places. In the same way, when you join an ISEP Exchange, you continue paying MSU tuition while the student you “swap places with” pays tuition to their home university. Essentially, you’re trading places and borrowing their spot on campus, just like borrowing their (hypothetical) car.

ISEP Direct

ISEP Direct Programs are less like cars, and more like the world’s most reliable public transportation. I’m talking about the Tube in London, the metro in Paris, or the fastest bullet train in Tokyo, all of which you can experience on the ISEP Direct programs, Study in London, Study in Paris, and Study in Tokyo, respectively. You pick exactly where you want to go and pay a set fee, but you use existing resources and infrastructure to help you navigate your experience. On public transportation, as on ISEP Direct programs, you meet locals, see your host community from an authentic angle, and truly have the chance to slow down and take it all in. That’s the same concept of an ISEP Direct program— you’ll live and study at a university abroad and pay their program fees, which in some cases make these programs even more affordable than a typical semester.
