5 Ways to Reduce Food Waste This Thanksgiving

November 20, 2017 by

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and it’s time to start planning out the big dinner! Do you tend to buy too much? Are there too many leftovers afterwards? Then hopefully these tips can be of some assistance for you! Here are 5 ways to reduce food waste this Thanksgiving.

1.) Know your guests

You never know when people are going to make lifestyle choices. Make sure there are vegetarian and vegan options on the table as well. You can also write down the ingredients you used in case of food allergies.

2.) Don’t overeat

A lot of us are guilty when it comes to putting too much on our plate. Some of us may even eat some of everything then call it quits and throw the rest away. Don’t do that! Start with what you know you’ll finish.

3.) Save your scraps

If you’ve got a lot of leftovers, save them for future meals! Or if you’d like to try something new, make some soup out of it. You can also toss scraps into your compost bin, if you have one!

4.) Coordinate recipes

I love pumpkin pie as much as the next person, but we should all admit that 5 is overdoing it. Coordinate your dishes so you don’t end up with more food than you need!

5.) Only buy what you need

Don’t risk bringing the same food as someone else and stick to yours! Plan in advance, and remember that communication is key. Make a list and stick to it!

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
There are three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic.
