Those currently enrolled in dance classes this semester at Missouri State University had the great opportunity to take two master classes from James Samson on December 5th and 6th. Samson graduated from (Southwest) Missouri State University with a B.F.A. in dance and a minor in business, and has proceeded to have a very successful career in dance. Some of his accomplishments include being selected to perform in Paul Taylor’s Airs set by Linda Kent, dancing for the Charleston Ballet Theatre, the Omega Dance Company, the Connecticut Ballet and finally, the Paul Taylor Dance Company beginning in February 2001. Samson focused on the Paul Taylor modern dance technique throughout his master classes with the intermediate/advanced students. He lead several types of warm-ups, and concluded with a combination that incorporated many of these aspects such as spine work, change in directions/tempos, jumps/leaps, and arm-leg coordination. All involved were thrilled to have such a wonderful opportunity to learn from such a talented graduate.
