That’s right! 10 Hairy Legs is coming to Missouri State University over Presidents’ Day weekend February 15th to 18th!
Founded in 2012, 10 Hair Legs is an all-male dance company recognized nationally and internationally. They are are known for performing existing and original works, visiting universities, and giving master classes on several different dance styles to over 6,500 students and teachers each year.
While on their tour of the Midwest, 10 Hairy Legs Artistic Director Randy James and two additional company members, Robert Burke and Jared McAboy, will be stopping by the Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Department to give four master classes and host an informal showing and Q&A of their new commissioned piece featuring the T&D Department’s own students. The formal showing of the piece will be performed at the 2020 Spring Dance Concert.
The audition for the Spring Dance Piece will be held Saturday, February 15th at 4:00p.m. in McDonald 203. Rehearsals are that evening and the following two days.
The free, informal showing and Q&A will be Tuesday, February 18th at the Credo Dance Academy, 931 S. Kickapoo Ave., in studio 2.
On Tuesday, February 18th, Randy, Robert, and Jared will teach the following master classes during the respected class times, with all classes taking place in McDonald 203:
- DAN 330/430 Ballet with Artistic Director Randy James from 9:30 – 10:55a.m., (regular instructor: Andrew Parker)
- DAN 323 Musical Theatre Styles with Robert Burke from 11:00a.m. – 12:20p.m., (regular instructor: Sarah Wilcoxon)
- DAN 316/416 Contemporary Dance with Jared McAboy (regular instructor: Azaria Hogans)
- DAN 146 Beginning Jazz Improvisation and Composition with Artistic Director Randy James from 2:00 – 3:20p.m. (regular instructor: Sarah Wilcoxon)
Those already in these classes are automatically in the master class. For students wanting to take any of the master classes, but are not in the class, please contact Ruth Barnes at ruthbarnes@missouristate.edu or the regular class instructor.
This is a wonderful opportunity for theatre and dance students to learn and dance with a renown repertory dance company. Students are encouraged to attend as much as possible. It will be an amazing, immersive, educational opportunity.
