After a long and eventful first half of the semester, spring break is finally here! Our theatre and dance students have been hard at work creating unique art and performance pieces, and it’s about time they got a well-deserved break. The semester is only halfway over, and we’ve already seen full productions of “Head Over Heels,” “Picnic,” “Miss Julie,” and “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind.” Additionally, rehearsals have started for “Spring Dance Concert 2020,” “The Secret Garden,” “Trail to Oregon,” directing I scenes, directing II one-acts, B.F.A. New York and L.A. showcases, and the B.A./B.S. showcases. The second half of the semester is going to be a rollercoaster of performance pieces and stage magic.
However, with all of these opportunities and the rehearsals on top of classes, it’s easy for students to get stressed, fatigued, and worn out. It’s important for them to remember to take care of themselves, but it can be easy to overlook. So, what will our bears be up to over Spring Break?
The most common answers are spending quality time with friends, traveling, and seeing loved ones or significant others! One student stated that the extra time not focused on school gave them and their friends an opportunity to just be together. They enjoy “taking a break to play a quality game with friends” as “a great way to get your mind off of stress.”
Other students are traveling with friends and significant others for break. We have students taking trips all the way to Los Angeles, Chicago, and to their homes all over. This has been the first real chance many students have had to return home since winter break, and the homesickness is real.
We also have students going around to try new restaurants around town, see their beloved pets, and explore new fun places.
My personal favorite response; though, was doing absolutely nothing except catch up on beauty sleep.
Whatever you do, just make sure it’s something enjoyable and to take at least a little bit of time to relax and de-stress.
