“A truly amazing drama teacher is hard to find and impossible to forget,”

It is always bittersweet when graduation comes, and we have to say goodbye to our loved students; however, we are beyond proud and excited to announce and congratulate the Spring 2020 graduates from our Speech and Theatre Education program! We have two seniors who have dedicated their education to teaching and educating the future performers of the world- maybe even potential future Bears. Both of them have had remarkable careers here and have made a positive impact in our department at Missouri State University. It will not be the same without their friendly faces and uplifting smiles. Give a heart-filled “congratulations” to the following seniors: Colton Hatfield and Emilie Hotchkiss.
Both seniors are graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Theatre Education and have remarkable feats, such as working backstage on Mainstage productions and directing one-acts. Emilie has also notably served as the Vice President of the Student Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri.
They have shared their favorite memories from their time here that include their time designing different aspects of productions, directing their one-acts, and attending the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri Conference every year with all the Speech and Theatre Education majors. These wonderful experiences are sure to guide their teaching styles in the classroom to be the greatest they can be.
To their instructors, they would just like to say “thank you.” Emilie stated, “My instructors have reminded me why we do this every step of the way, and I could not be more thankful.” Their instructors in and before college have shown them what education should look like and how to bring out the best in everyone. They have shown them how to find the inspiration in ourselves and others.
Together, Colton and Emilie are the next educators of the theatrical world leaving Missouri State University. They are bound to change the lives of every student they take under their wings and into the stage lights. Congratulations to the both of you. Wherever life takes you, know that you have a forever-home in the hearts of those you have touched and the university you helped create magic.
The Theatre and Dance Department will not be the same without you.
