Yesterday, a couple of web sites went live that had substantial updates:
Both of these sites are within Web Press. Because the Missouri State Foundation is a separate entity from the University, it uses a custom html template.
Additionally, these sites used some features that are available to all University web sites:
- Custom stylesheet
A CSS stylesheet sets the colors, backgrounds, fonts, etc of the sites. On the International Center, this was applied to the standard University template to tweak it to a unique design. - Master calendar feed
The International Center homepage shows events on the master calendar from each of its subsites (International Center, English Language Institute, China Programs, International Business Programs and International Student Services). The Foundation web site includes Foundation and Alumni Association events. When events are added to the master calendar that are sponsored by these units, they automatically appear on each site’s homepage. - News feed through a blog
Each site has a corresponding blog site that houses the news and updates. The RSS feed for the blog is fed into the site’s homepage. When a post is made to the blog, it automatically appears on the site’s homepage. - Spotlights/testimonials
The sites also use a new spotlights system, which is a central system that collects photos, videos and text about a faculty/staff member, student, alum or donor. Each spotlight can be associated with a department, and then the associated spotlights can display on the department’s web pages.
University units wanting more information about using these features can contact the Office of Web and New Media at x65271 or web@missouristate.edu.
