Here’s a recap of recent updates to blogs and blog features.
Updates implemented
- WordPress: Upgraded to the latest Version 6.7.1.
- Themes: All themes are upgraded to their latest versions.
- Plugins: Key plugins, including Yoast SEO and Jetpack, have been upgraded.
Yoast SEO
Yoast SEO is now configured across all blogs to boost search engine visibility. This tool will help you optimize your content for search engines and improve social sharing of blog posts. Keep an eye out in January for upcoming tips on how to leverage Yoast for SEO and social sharing.
Jetpack blog subscriptions
Jetpack has revamped its subscription process and user interface. Here’s what’s new:
- A Subscribe button now appears in the lower-right corner.
- A Sign-up form is displayed at the end of each blog post.
- Subscribers will receive a confirmation email to verify their subscription before they begin receiving updates.
If you have a blog and would like subscriptions enabled, contact us.
Subscription options and process
Subscription options
If a blog has subscriptions enabled, a subscription button is located in the lower right corner of the blog and a form is available at the end of each blog post.
Sign-up form
If you choose the button option, enter your email address on the screen that appears after clicking the subscribe button. If you use the form at the end of a blog post, you will be redirected to the submission confirmation screen.
Submission confirmation
You will receive a confirmation screen to check your email for verification.
Confirmation email
WordPress uses two-factor authentication to reduce spam and bot subscriptions. You must confirm the email to start receiving blog post notifications.
Post confirmation
Once you confirm you will be directed to WordPress with the option to manage your blog subscriptions. You will also receive a welcome email from the blog you subscribed to confirming your subscription.
Abandoned blogs
We’ve identified 46 blogs that haven’t been updated in over four years. Blog editors will receive notifications in late January to confirm whether these blogs should be archived.
If you’re aware of any abandoned blogs in your unit that need to be archived, please let us know.
