Celebrate the 2013 Chinese New Year!

ChineseNewYearThe Chinese New Year Festival is the most important holiday in China and other Asian countries. This year, the Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Feb. 11, marking the beginning of the Year of Snake. To celebrate the Chinese New Year and enhance the awareness of the Asian culture on campus, a series of Chinese cultural activities is planned for Feb. 11-15.

Featured events include Chinese arts and hand craft exhibitions, talks on the Chinese New Year, Beijing Opera, Martial Arts films, Tea Ceremony, Chinese Dumpling Workshop, Lion Dance, demonstrations of Martial Arts, calligraphy, Chinese paintings and Chinese music performance. All events involve MSU faculty, staff and students. Symbolic snacks, Chinese tea and dumplings will be provided during the events.

Chinese New Year Event Schedule

Events take place in Siceluff Hall Library 124 (Lion Dance and Shaolin Kungfu demonstration will be held at the PSU Theatre, room 200).

Monday, Feb. 11

10-11 a.m. Introduction of Chinese New Year
12-12:45 p.m. Lion Dance (PSU Theatre)
1-2 p.m. Shaolin Kungfu Demonstration (PSU Theatre)
2:30-3:30 p.m. Chinese Paper Cutting Introduction and Demonstration

Tuesday, Feb. 12

1:30-2:30 p.m. Beijing Opera Talk
2:30-3 p.m. Beijing Opera Mask Painting Demonstration

Wednesday, Feb. 13

11-11:45 a.m. Chinese Martial Arts
12-2 p.m. Martial Arts Film Introduction and Martial Arts Film Screening

Thursday, Feb. 14

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Chinese Tea Ceremony
12:30-1:30 p.m. Chinese Authentic Dumpling Workshop

Friday, Feb. 15

11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m. Chinese Music Performance
1:30-2:30 p.m. Twelve Year Animals Painting Demonstration

Events are sponsored by the Modern & Classical Language Department, the China Program Office, College of Humanities and Public Affairs and Association of Chinese Students and Scholars.
All events are free and open to the public.
