Biology professor Dr. Tom Tomasi was elected in June to his second term on the board of directors for the American Society of Mammalogists (ASM). His term will end in 2012. As a board member, Tomasi’s responsibilities will include overseeing ASM’s budget and approving nominations for ASM awards.
The ASM, the most important mammalogy society in the world, gives about $100,000 in awards and grants to student members. The society also publishes the Journal of Mammalogy. The Special Library Association recently named the journal one of the 100 most influential journals in biology and medicine over the past century. Currently, about four thousand scientists and students are members of the ASM.
Tomasi’s re-election to the board marks his continued dedication to the ASM. He has been a member of the ASM for 33 years. During that time, he has served the society in many ways. In addition to being a member of the board of directors from 2005 to 2008, he has attended 32 annual meetings. He has also chaired the Graduate Students and Education Committee and the Public Education Committee. He worked for a time as the associate editor of the Journal of Mammalogy. Right now, he serves on the Program Committee.
We congratulate Tomasi on his re-election
