As the economy, technology, and priorities shift, career fields expand and change. In response, Missouri State University constantly adapts its programming to better equip its students to fulfill these changing needs. One excellent example of this is through the introduction of the geotourism degree.
Responding to tourism’s escalating impact on the world’s economy, culture and environment, Missouri State University developed a new bachelor’s degree in geotourism in the fall of 2010. The degree is the only one of its kind in the U.S.
Working with information from the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations, the program incorporates all elements of geotourism. We are pleased to honor three faculty members who were instrumental in developing the program. Linnea Iantria, Jacob Sowers, and Dimitri Ioannides, who is unable to be here this evening. And also on the court to congratulate them is Missouri State Associate Provost Dr. John Catau. Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge the work of this team in developing this very unique program.
