The department of geography, geology and planning at Missouri State University hosted the annual meeting of the Association of Missouri Geologists (AMG) on Oct. 11-12 in Joplin, Missouri.
President-elect of AMG Damon Bassett led a trip on Oct. 11 to show department members abandoned mine sites in the tri-state lead-zinc mining district, which are currently being remediated. The evening business meeting and banquet was attended by approximately 60 people from across the state, including professional geologists and geology students.
Bassett, assisted by Dr. Kevin Evans, professor of geography, geology and planning, led a trip on Oct. 12 to view and discuss the Devonian and Mississippian strata exposed in the roadcuts that run from Joplin south to the Arkansas state line.
