Earlier I looked at the Ozark Chinquapins in John Avery’s planting at the station and could not figure out where the female flowers were. Now that they have begun developing after pollination I can see that the female flowers are actually on the catkins along with the male flowers. I have also read that the female flowers may be on smaller, separate catkins at the base of the male ones.
