Today was our first day as a group volunteering in the Colorado Children’s hospital in Denver. When we first arrived we had orientation and a mini tour of the first and second floor of the hospital. We then split up into two different groups. Half of us went to the creativity center, which was like a daycare for siblings of patients. The other half hosted an art party. I was in the creativity center today; I was able to meet a lot of different children. I played Wii with a boy, made crafts with a girl, and also went outside with a different girl and played with chalk and pushed her around in a play car. I am so excited to have this opportunity to connect with different children through play.
After we left the hospital we had some free time and went to the Nature and Science Museum. We were there for three hours and I feel like there was still so much I did not get to see. From what I did see it was amazing. They had a mineral and gems section, an animal section, a dinosaur section, and also a section that told you about the human body. There was a computer that took a picture of you and showed you what you will look like at 72. You could also see what obesity, smoking, and UV damage would do to your face. I did not have a favorite part of the museum because I loved it all!
After the museum, we went to a place called Lookout Mountain Park. We took some cute group pictures. We had reflection time here and we all talked about our different experiences at the hospital today. It was nice to hear everyone else’s thoughts and feelings of the day. After this, we went back to the church, cooked breakfast for dinner and had a nice group dinner. I can’t wait for the rest of this week!
