Mother Teresa says, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” Exactly, that’s also the goal what we bears pursuing during this amazing Spring Break in the Peach State-Atlanta, GA.
Actually, this is my second time to join the Bear Breaks Program at MSU, which is a really awesome platform to provide great chances for students to explore more, volunteer more and enrich themselves more.
It is a little bit chilly in March of Atlanta, but the scenery is still charming. After volunteered at Central Night Shelter overnight and visited some museums and places of interest on Tuesday, we served at ACSS (Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency) at daytime and did after school activities with children from Bright Futures House at night on Wednesday.
ACSS in Atlanta was created as an effort to serve Atlanta’s homeless population in a more impactful way. We went there in the morning and learned something about its courses and objectives. It is really a helpful NPO for people in need to get education again and develop their job career to be more competent. We also served lunch for the people there and planned to continue serving at ACSS in the following few days. In addition, the system of ACSS is sound, and more and more people are involved in. The people are kind and friendly to us, and they shared their own good stories with us. Most of them succeed in achieving their career with the help of ACSS. I am looking forward to the process of interacting with in the next couple of days.
After kept exploring Atlanta during the free timeslot, we did volunteer work at Bright Futures House afterwards. After-school program provided by Bright Futures House in Atlanta is a combination of art, music and recreational activity to foster creativity, music appreciation and team dynamics. We made good connections with the children there today by making art work, playing volleyball and doing some amuse activities with them. I love the children so much. They are cute and I can see much more great love from their eyes. They kept asking me variety of interesting questions and shared their happiness with me. I felt so blessed and grateful when I talked with them. Thanks for this safe, warm, educational Bright Futures House which provides the means and motivation for youth to succeed in becoming self-sufficient through a positive and sustainable support system.
How time flies! Half of our immersion trips in Atlanta has passed. I do really enjoy our good times in Atlanta, enjoy this meaningful trip, and enjoy the unforgettable memories I created with my good teammates! Thanks again! Furthermore, we learned more realistic and effective content about poverty, and we would love to serve more in Bears’ Springfield when we back for sure.
