The City of Springfield continues working on the improvements along Grand Street from Holland Avenue to just east of Hammons Parkway. Much of the work to date has involved upgrading the utilities along this route including storm water, natural gas, and power. The contractor has now begun working on traffic signal improvements at Hammons Parkway and Grand Street.
In order to make these traffic signal improvements, it will be necessary to close Hammons Parkway at Grand Street beginning Thursday, June 27, 2013. Holland Avenue will remain open to allow access into campus from the south. Clay Street (access to the east entrance to Bear Park South and the Kemper Hall dock) will remain closed during this phase of the project. Parking lots 4 and 19 will be accessible via Hammons Parkway from the north and the Carrington shuttle will be rerouted to enter and exit Grand Street from Holland Avenue. We will keep you abreast of the status of these closures as we receive additional information from the City of Springfield and their contractor.
The City of Springfield, its contractor, and the University appreciate your patience as these improvements are made. As additional information is made available to the University, we will strive to keep the campus community informed. Should you have any immediate questions, please contact our office of Planning, Design & Construction as they are monitoring the project daily. Their office number is 6-5101.
