I know Ms. Pham mentioned the glowing beaches in the Maldives and I’ve known about this for a while because of an image I found on Pinterest but I decided to actually look into it. The “glow” is really just bioluminescent plankton. They can be seen in the Maldives and a few other coasts through out the world. The glow is a defense mechanism to stress, so as the waves move them around as they break, the plankton light up.
My mom saw them one time when she was younger, before she knew what it was, on a trip with family and actually thought she was dreaming! I really hope to see them light up somewhere on the island while we are there. They are most prevalent mid-summer to winter so everyone cross your fingers!
