Lessons learned from CASE District VI Conference

I attended and presented at the CASE District VI Conference in Kansas City, MO in early January, 2011. I wanted to mention a few key takeaways from some of my favorite sessions at the conference.

  • Real-Time Campus Event Coverage by Seth Odell
    • Real-time web tools include Twitter, Ustream, Google real-time search and Facebook
    • Real-time event coverage is important because it gives an audience geographical freedom, engages your audience and requires a minimal investment.
    • The main elements of live streaming include video (Ustream), chat and dialogue (Twitter, Facebook) and real-time Photogaphy (wi-fi SD cards and Flickr)
  • Technology Tips & Tricks for Better Media Relations by Seth Odell
    • It’s important to monitor your brand; tools include Addictomatic for monitoring social media chatter about your brand, Bit.ly for keeping track of links created by others and Boxcar for instant notifications for Facebook and Twitter.
    • Creating a video expert advisory is a great way to include an expert’s interview on the media’s news releases
    • You should follow and engage with your local media by friending media professionals on Facebook and following them on Twitter.

Missouri State presents

I also presented two sessions at this conference: Transitioning Alumni Magazines from Print to Web and 10 Tips for Creating Online Video.
