The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Overland Park, Kansas, recently opened its exhibit “Domestic Seen,” focusing on seven artists who employ domestic interiors and objects in their work.

Sean Lyman, associate professor in art and design, has several pieces showcased in the exhibit.

Shedding light on the mundane

According to Lyman’s website, his “body of work deals with the mundane spaces and objects that we use. These places and things have specific functions or roles in our daily routine, and they are easily overlooked and taken for granted. The intention of this work is to focus on that we are both ‘present’ and ‘absent’ at the same time in the all of the spaces we inhabit.”

Also featured in the exhibit is MSU alumna Julie Blackmon, whose work has been exhibited widely.

More about the exhibit

The exhibit is free and open to the public. It can be found on the first floor of the museum until March 26, 2017.
