Preserving the Future: Students Present at Conference!

April 18, 2018 by Nathan Morris

Last week, several Missouri State students exhibited their projects at the Missouri Archaeological Society annual conference in Springfield.

The poster panel featured six student projects from the ART/MST 488: Basic Conservation of Art and Artifacts class (Fall 2017) In this Citizenship and Service-Learning Integrated course, the students received training in basic preservation, cleaning, stabilization, exhibition, and storage of art and artifacts, as well as limited training in repair and restoration. The resulting posters are based on the research and conservation of their final course projects, for which they analyzed and conserved art and artifacts provided by different Community Partners.

Each student presented their poster at the Conference, which lasted throughout the weekend. Below are some photos of their work:

Brittaney London, with her presentation, Conservation of a Native American Saddlebag.
Macaylah Gant Hodge with her presentation, Conservation of Mimbres Pottery Reproductions.
Nicole Paden with her presentation, Conservation of a Fijian Woven Sleeping Mat.
Katelyn Hageman, with her presentation, Conservation and Restoration of Five Gravestones in the Union Campground Cemetery.
Robyn Slusher with her presentation, Conservation and Restoration of Five African-American Gravestones.
Emily McClain with her presentation, Conservation of Cast Iron Stove Parts.

Congratulations everyone!
