Missouri State University Clayworks student organization and ceramics faculty sponsored an open-studio event to throw and glaze bowls as part of a fundraiser to help with hunger and food scarcity in the Ozarks.
Ozarks Food Harvest and Panera Bread are coordinating the fundraiser to raise awareness of hunger and support the food bank’s feeding programs through their fifth annual Empty Bowls event.
If you’d like to contribute, stop by Panera on Sept. 28 (4100 S Campbell Rd, Springfield, MO) to make a donation and receive one of the ceramic bowls handcrafted by a local artist – possibly one of the MSU artists – as well as a meal of soup and bread.
The empty bowls serve as a reminder of those struggling with hunger in southwest Missouri. All the money raised from this year’s event will support children, families and seniors in need.
Many who participated in the MSU event – throwing and glazing 191 bowls – include: George Boyd, Treveor Doell, Ashley Eggemeyer, Derek Fitzpatrick, Stephanie Greene, Alexis Griner, Abigail Kowalski, Ashlyn Longman, Katlyn Musice, Christian Summers, Courteney Benson, Andrew Paul, T Russell, Chelsey Klosterman, Shayna MacDonald, Stephanie Brown, Lindsey Johnson, Jonna Blankenship, Summer Benedetti, Todd Nelson, David Cogorno, Kevin W. Hughes, Steve Fielding, Tawn Dickison, Keith Ekstam, Cathy Clemens, and Joel Blackburn.
