October’s FFAW: Spooky Fun!

October 2, 2018 by Nathan Morris

Join us on October 5th as we celebrate the First Friday of October! This month, there will be “spooky” events in over 27 different locations around Springfield!
The Art Walk will begin at 6:00 on Friday, October 5th, and will run until 10:00.
Don’t forget! All Missouri State Galleries will be providing refreshments and snacks for those interested.

MSU Student Exhibition Center presents the Art Walk Anniversary Art Contest Exhibition. Enjoy works submitted for our annual art contest, and choose the winner of the People’s Choice Award by voting for your favorite at the reception Oct. 5!

ideaXfactory presents eXtreme Fiber Art, an exciting mix of contemporary quilts, sculpture, installation, crochet, weaving, needle-felting, book art, origami, and art to wear, featuring both local and nationally awarded artists whose work has appeared in Quilt National and Fiberarts International. An amazing display with live demonstrations!

The Missouri State University Brick City Gallery proudly presents Sasha Vidakovic and Radovan Jenko: Graphic Design in October and November.

The Missouri State University Center of International Programs invites you to celebrate Harvest with them during Art Walk in October. Learn about harvest celebrations in countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Vietnam.

Park Central Branch Library presents an evening of art and culture for Art Walk in October.  At 6 p.m. Hanna Flanagan, journalism major and art history/communications minor at Missouri State University, will present A Review of Byzantine Iconoclasm and Imperial Power During the Eighth Century. At 7 p.m. Nigerian artist Ibiyinka Alao, first prize recipient of the United Nations International Art Competition, will present Visions of True Colors, about his work and display samples. Alao’s paintings are a rare collection of an artist who has spent 21 years expressing a peaceful view of integration of cultures in our world today through the use of colors. On Display, 6-9 p.m.
