Letter from Tainan, Taiwan! “My name is Liv Smith and I am a senior finishing up my Bachelors in Fine Art. I have been a visiting artist at Tainan National University of the Arts for the past three months. Through the help of my professors, Deidre Argyle, Kevin Hughes and Keith Ekstam, a gracious scholarship from the Art and Design Department and the support of my family I was able to take a break from my academic studies and focus on my craft. Here in Taiwan I have been able to experience a different culture and explore a tropical environment while working in the studio of a Masters program. Having the opportunity to spend 8-10 hours a day in the studio for three months has given me the chance to experiment and run through ideas which would not have been possible back home while in school and working at my job. This experience has helped me grow as a person just as much as it has helped me grow as an artist. Here are a few of my favorite memories including going to the beach and meeting the Mayor of Tainan, loading some of my biggest works into kilns with the help of friends, hiking in the mountains and lots more!”
