Bears L.E.A.D. and TRIO – Two Life-Changing Programs

June 21, 2019 by Priscilla Childress

Bears L.E.A.D (Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, and Diversity) is an initiative created out of Missouri State University’s commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all students. This program serves to immerse underrepresented and first-generation students into the college experience while enhancing their academic success. This year-long program is designed for first and second year students who identify as a first generation college student, represents a historically underrepresented background, is eligible for the Pell Grant, or received an ACT score below 24.

Bears L.E.A.D. provides students with opportunities to meet new friends, connect with a peer mentor, gain staff and faculty connections, explore Springfield, establish an additional resource on campus to assist you, get involved with community service projects, and many more workshops and activities. To get more information about Bears L.E.A.D. contact our office at 417.836.4313 and to apply please visit: www.missouristate.edu/bearslead

We know that many students have significant barriers to overcome in order to complete their education. The goal of TRIO is to empower students to take control of their education and help them succeed in college. We provide several ways to assist students on their path to success by offering free services including the following:

•           Tutoring

•           Reading/study skills assistance

•           Scholarship and financial aid assistance

•           Career exploration

•           Workshops

•           Peer mentoring

•           Personal development

•           Cultural events and social activities

•           Volunteer opportunities

•           Extended Academic Assistance Program (EAAP)

For more information about the TRIO program, visit their website at https://trio.missouristate.edu/ or contact them at trio@missouristate.edu.
